Frome Stars vs Spires
What a treat to start a game in the dry! Frome got off to a great start, taking control of the ball immediately.
Our pro holding shooting Nat held space effectively, despite working against a tall defender. Hats off to Nat for some great defensive work further up court too.
The second quarter saw some lovely defence, with Chloe making her debut for Stars as WD. GK Freya and GD Lucy fell into a nice rhythm within the D, working together to pick off overheads and rebounds.
As the game progressed the smooth passages of play down court resulting in goal after goal was beautiful to watch. Frome really settled into a flow, utilising clear channels and delivering simple, effective netball.
The rain set in (shock…) at half-time but a decision was made to play on. Everything started to get a little chaotic with a slippery ball and a more challenging surface to work with, nevertheless Frome continued to pull away.
C Hannah worked her socks off as usual, popping up everywhere with what must be a record number of interceptions for one game! An absolute play maker.
Finishing the final quarter with a score of 44-23 to Frome, we continue our winning streak. On to meet Bath next week.
POM Freya. PP Chloe
Frome Hearts vs Chippenham Leopards
With a strong squad of ten players, Frome Hearts opened the match with steady, composed play. The first quarter remained close, with Evie and Lola putting in some brilliant defensive work to keep Chippenham under pressure.
Heading into the second quarter, we started to find our rhythm and maintained good possession of the ball. Chippenham, however, responded with solid defensive pressure of their own, making it an evenly matched contest. We went into half-time narrowly behind, trailing 10–9.
A reshuffle of positions going into the third quarter brought fresh energy. Our defence continued to shine, securing multiple turnovers and interceptions. These efforts led to some excellent goals, with fantastic shooting from Lydia and Kizzi. Despite our push, Chippenham matched us goal for goal, making it a tightly contested quarter with plenty of back-and-forth play. Our defence never let up, fighting for every ball and earning some impressive turnovers.
In the final quarter, Hearts came out strong and managed to draw level with four minutes to go. Unfortunately, a few unlucky calls gave Chippenham late opportunities, and they were able to edge ahead with some last-minute goals. Despite the result, the team stayed positive, knowing we had played at our best in a match that never eased in intensity.
Final score: Chippenham Leopards 25 – 22 Frome Hearts
A tough but hard-fought loss, leaving the team even more motivated for the next match!
A huge well done to Tulula Flaggs, our Player of the Match!
