The Frome Open Art Trail returns this year from Saturday 5th to Sunday 13th July, during the Frome Festival.
Launched in 2007 as ‘Frome Open Studios’, the trail has grown in size and popularity to become the biggest yet.
Artists in the town and surrounding villages will open their studios and workspaces to exhibit a wide variety of work, from experimental abstract to traditional figurative paintings; textile art including clothing, knitwear, rugs and wall hangings; jewellery in various mediums and styles; as well as illustration, collage, sculpture, photography, printmaking, glass and ceramics.
Organisers say, “An interesting and encouraging aspect of open trails like this is that, whether professional or amateur, some of our artists come from a variety of former occupations — from prison librarian to world-renowned knitwear designer, from graphic designer to extraordinary trompe l’oeil artist, from science teacher to watercolourist, from dancer to expert weaver, from high-powered businesswoman to potter, from psychotherapist to textile artist.
“There will be excellent opportunities to meet the artists, look behind the scenes, and learn something about their techniques. Most artists also have work for sale. Some venues open in conjunction with the Hidden Gardens trail, which can be an added bonus.”
A trail brochure with maps and listings of participating artists is available in Frome’s shops, cafes and galleries, including The Black Swan Arts Centre.
It provides contact details, images and links to all the artists and their work, as well as information about days when some artists may not be open during the week. The brochure also includes details on disabled access, parking and refreshments.
All venues are open at the weekends. An online version of the brochure is also available at www.frome-open-art-trail.co.uk
