FROME Selwood Rotary has donated £2,000 to the Fair Frome Food Bank to enable them to continue their support for low-income families.
The local charity, which runs the food bank and other projects aimed at people in acute financial distress, has welcomed the support.
Chair of Fair Frome trustees, Bob Ashford, whilst thanking Frome Selwood for their donation, said, “Fair Frome relies upon the local community for all the work we do. This money will help us to help others at a very challenging time for everyone.”
President of Frome Selwood Rotary, Geoff Cardnell, said, “In view of the growing food crisis in the UK, the club has decided to divert funds to assist local people during this very real crisis. The money allocated has come from the local community, through the town centre Rotary pop-up shop and it is therefore only right that it should be returned in this way.”
Fair Frome coordinator, Rosie Oakley, added, “We are very grateful for the kind donation. The last few months have been incredibly busy for us. With the increase in cost of living more people locally are struggling financially and the number of people who are coming to the food bank is rising sharply.
“People are in real crisis mode, and we are seeing more and more first-time users come along to the food bank each month. This was particularly noticeable at the end of June when we had the busiest day at the Food Bank since opening in 2014.
“All of this means we are needing more food and we are working hard to make sure we can continue to provide healthy food options for all food bank users. This donation from Frome Selwood Rotary will help us ensure we can keep our shelves stocked during this period of crisis and purchase healthy fresh produce for all food bank clients.”
Fair Frome are seeking to expand their operation to keep pace with the increasing needs of the community and are working with the three Frome based Rotary, Lions and inner Wheel clubs to secure new premises.
