MENDIP Community Speed Watch says that cases of speeding in Frome continues to be ‘excessively high’.
“As we move into the spring months and the speed enforcement units now cover the 20mph zones both in Buckland Dinham and Frome town centre, speeding has not dropped at all, and in some cases continues to be excessively high,” says Mendip CSW coordinator Ashley Reay,
“In some areas of Frome numbers of speeding offences have doubled compared with 2021 at this time, with motorists displaying seemingly wanton disregard for the public and themselves.
“It needs to be remembered that the speed enforcement unit and the police enforce the speed limits because of local concerns and every area of Frome covered by enforcement is a direct result of the Frome public asking the police to be there.”
In other news, Mendip CSW were recently joined by the chief constable of Avon and Somerset, Sarah Crew, at a community speed watch session in nearby Farleigh Hungerford.
Mendip CSW Coordinator Ashley Reay, reports, “It was a great honour to have the chief constable attend as it was only three months ago that the police crime commissioner also attended a CSW session.
“It goes to show the importance that those in high positions of authority place on community involvement, whether it be reducing speeding or any other community-based actions. We have been delighted to see both leaders of our police, and their presence is a great testament to the 300 CSW volunteers within Mendip and the work they carry out.”
