SIX weeks ago, Mike and Angie Bishop thought that the 2016 Frome Town Crier Festival would not go ahead following a fire at their home.
The fire destroyed all of the items that they needed to put on this annual event, and they didn’t think they could organise replacements in enough time. But thanks to the tremendous support that they have received from the local community and especially all of the Saturday market traders, the event will once again be held this Saturday 18th June outside of the library.
This year, twenty criers will come to Frome for the festival and once again the George Hotel will act as a host to the criers staying in Frome on the Friday evening for a welcome get together and a meal.
At 10.30am on Saturday the criers will line up in Cork Street and parade through the town centre to encourage all that are watching, to follow them to the competition site outside of the library. All criers will perform from 11am their own ‘home town cry’ telling all why you should visit their towns. After a short break at around 12.45pm all criers will again perform a cry of their own choice.
Mike said, “Why not come along on Saturday and see why Angie and I love the job of representing our town all around the country at different competitions.
“During the day there will be lottery tickets on sale with the top two prizes being £75 & £50, plus 13 other prizes to be won. All prizes including the cash prizes have been kindly donated by local businesses, who I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart.”
The committee will be on site from 8am setting up so if you would like to help, they would welcome your support.
