Frome Town Football Club has entered an exciting new chapter, with a change in ownership, fresh leadership and a renewed focus on the community and long-term sustainability.
The club has been acquired by FTFC Ltd., and American businessman Courtney Fong has been named the new chair of Frome Town FC (pending FA approval). Courtney, who brings a strong background in leadership and community development, promises to usher in a new era of openness, engagement and financial stability.
Courtney, who is based in the USA, represents a growing trend of American involvement in English football following in the footsteps of several Premier League and Football League clubs.
“This is more than a change in ownership; it’s a fresh start built on the passion and pride of our supporters and community,” said Courtney. “We’re committed to making Frome Town FC a club that thrives on and off the pitch, with a home that’s open and welcoming to all.”

Lease approved
Frome Town Council has also approved a new lease for Badgers Hill stadium and grounds. The lease has been granted to Badgers Hill Ltd., a company owned by FTFC Ltd. The council will be leasing out the site for £32,000 per annum for 23 years with an option to buy during that time. Courtney says he has plans for the site to be part of the community.
“This isn’t just a lease,” Courtney said. “It’s a chance to build something beautiful together – a home for football, for friendship, for the future. A place that truly belongs to the people of Frome.”
Plans are already in motion to reopen the clubhouse and bar, with the aim of making it a vibrant space for fans, families and the wider community. A pre-season volunteer day is being organised, with details to be confirmed soon.
“We’re introducing 11 core initiatives, including free tickets for children at all midweek matches, free tickets for Fair Frome, Sunday meals, youth clubs, reminiscence groups, and more,” said Courtney. “We want to run 50 to 80 public events annually, spanning health, arts, sport and education.”
Community benefit committee
A Community Benefit Committee, made up entirely of local residents, is being set up to oversee community programmes and ensure the ground becomes a hub for all. Quarterly reports will be shared with the council to keep the community updated on progress.
“Community is what makes Badgers Hill so unique,” Courtney added. “We want it to thrive as a place for everyone.
“Although I don’t live here, I have friends who have for over 50 years. I think Covid has changed things in terms of being able to work remotely and being a part of a community from miles away.”
The new leadership has also pledged to build a culture of “kindness, inclusion and respect,” with a focus on doing things differently.
“We want to do things out of kindness and inclusion,” said Courtney. “Life is too short to be unkind to one another.”
While based in America, Courtney says he will provide strategic direction from afar. Day-to-day operations will be handled by a new on-the-ground team, including stadium manager Alex Silk and dedicated bar staff.
Former chairman Derek Graham, who has guided the club through some of its toughest seasons, will now step into an honorary role as Chair Emeritus. The club extended its appreciation to Derek for his ‘dedication, leadership and tireless commitment.’
With preparations for the new season underway, Frome Town FC is aiming for promotion once again. New signings have already been made, and the club is calling on supporters to fill the stands and bring their matchday energy.
“The number one word is sustainability,” said Courtney. “We want the club to be sustainable and to not repeat what has happened in the past. We will be spending less than what we take in.
“A special and sincere thank you to Frome Town Council – for listening, engaging, and backing a future where Badgers Hill remains a place for everyone. Your support means the world.”
