FROME Town FC has released the news that captain Sam Teale will stay on with the Robins, as well as three new signings, for the 19/20 season in the Evo-Stik Division one league.
Captain Sam Teale will lead the Robins again this season as he re-signs his contract despite a challenging last season.
Manager Danny Greaves said, “He is our captain and a leader, but also has the experience required to help with the younger lads. He sets the example to all around him when he crosses the white line, and everyone will need to follow that standard. By turning down a couple of good offers from higher league clubs, and by now signing a contract, it shows he also buys into what we are trying to build, on and off the pitch. He wants to be a part of the exciting future.
“I would also like to thank the board for their support and backing, as this contract is a big commitment from all parties.”
Sam said, “I’m happy to commit to the club for the 2019/20 season. After last year’s disappointing season, it’s time to rebuild and bounce back. I have a great relationship with the management, club and the fans. I would just like to thank the fans once again for paying for my scan last season and it was a big part of me committing for the upcoming season.”
Frome Town has also announced that former Melksham Town player Jon Davies returns for another stint at Frome Town, with an agreement for the midfielder to sign on at Badgers Hill in July.
Davies scored 33 goals in 100 appearances in his first three years in BA11, which ended with a move to Melksham Town last summer. Greaves said, “This is a very important signing for the club. It was clear last season that we needed to strengthen our attacking options, as our ‘goals for’ column was the worst in the league. He turned down offers from clubs in the two leagues above us, so this is a real coup and shows our ambition as a club.”
Jon said, “After meeting with Danny and hearing his ambitions for next season, I’m looking forward to coming back. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous spell at Frome and I can’t wait to get started again.”
Another signing from Melksham Town comes in the form of defender, Warren Maidment. The 21-year old has spent his entire career with the Black and Yellows, making his way through the youth set-up.
Manager Danny Greaves said, “I’m really pleased to have secured the signing of Warren Maidment as he is one of the best young central defenders in the area. Warren is at a great age, and to captain Melksham Town at such a young age shows the character of the lad.
“He is a player who has not only performed well at this level already, but has huge potential to push on in the game, so we are pleased he bought into our vision and has agreed to come to Frome.”
Warren said, “After meeting Danny and hearing some of the exciting plans for the future, but also the desire and hunger to challenge at the top end of the table and achieve promotion back to the Premier Division as soon as possible, it was an easy decision to make. I have been at Melksham since I was 4 years old, so owe so many people there a massive thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, but the time felt right for a fresh and exciting challenge.”
Promising youngster Joe O’Loughlin has also signed a contract keeping him at the club for the 2019/20 season. The 19-year-old even spent some time on-loan with South West Peninsula League side Ivybridge Town in his native Devon.
Joe said, “I am delighted to sign for Frome Town for the upcoming season and am very grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity.
“Despite the disappointment of relegation for us and the supporters last season, I relished the opportunity to challenge myself in men’s football.
“I look forward to working with Greavesy and the lads to become better and stronger and bounce straight back up! I hope to give the fans plenty to cheer about.”
