Frome Voices will be presenting two concerts to perform and celebrate some of Handel’s glorious music.
They will be on Saturday 26th October at 7.30pm and Sunday 27th at 3.00pm. Both concerts will be at Christ Church, Frome.
Organisers say, “The choir will sing Handel’s ever-popular Four Coronation Anthems, the most famous being Zadok, the Priest. The anthems were originally commissioned in 1727 for the coronation of King George ll and Queen Caroline, and were sung by the choir of the Chapel Royal. They have since been performed at many royal events, including the coronation of our current Queen.
“For this concert, the anthems will be accompanied by a baroque chamber orchestra and organ, thereby creating an authentic 18th century sound. We are thrilled that Peter King will join us as guest organist – until recently he was the organist at Bath Abbey and he enjoys a national reputation. Together with the orchestra he will play Handel’s delightful organ concerto The Cuckoo and the Nightingale. Instrumental music by Handel will make up the rest of the hour-long programme.
“Frome Voices has an established reputation for the high standard of its music and in recent years audiences have enjoyed exciting performances ranging from Brahms’ German Requiem to Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Earlier this year, a number of singers from the choir were invited to sing in New York’s iconic Carnegie Hall with a huge international choir. This Handel concert will be conducted by the choir’s musical director, Alan Burgess.
“Tickets will be on sale at the door. £10 (free to under-18s). Refreshments will be available, with donations going to church funds.”
