Registration is now open for the town’s beloved annual art and community event, Frome Window Wanderland, returning from Friday 28th February to Sunday 2nd March.
The event encourages participants to decorate a window in their house, flat, business, school, campervan or garden.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to unleash your inventiveness, engage with your community and celebrate the fun and artistry that Frome has to offer,” says one of the organisers, Susie Temple.
“Together we can turn the streets into a delightful outdoor gallery for everyone to enjoy!”
Once registered, your window will appear on the online map as an anonymised pin. “During the event this map is then used to create a beautiful walking tour of all the wonderful windows the residents of Frome have created,” explained Susie. “There’s a lovely sense of camaraderie as everyone goes out to look at the windows, with friends, families and visitors wandering the streets to see all the art that they can spot.”
The event is free to take part in and anyone can join in.
“What’s so great about this event is how accessible it is,” says Susie. “We get people from all parts of life taking part, from artists, families, schools, nurseries, businesses and care homes. The window can be anything you want, as long as it’s family friendly, and we are blown away year on year by the sheer creativity that residents show!
“It doesn’t have to be an incredible work of art; it can be as simple as fairy lights, a candle or hanging your favourite dress in your window – be as ambitious or as simple as you want. We’re also very happy for window displays from previous years to be reused, either in your own window or given to a neighbour who doesn’t have time to make anything from scratch.”
To help you get started, the organisers will be running a series of workshops in February where you will have the opportunity to learn window-making techniques and try out materials.
Workshops will run on the following dates:
Workshop for adults and older children: Wednesday 12th February, from 7pm to 9pm at The Cheese and Grain
Family Workshop: Saturday 15th February, from 1pm to 3pm at Frome Library
Family Workshop: Tuesday 18th February, from 2pm to 4pm at Frome Library
Workshop for adults and older children: Thursday 20th February, from 7pm to 9pm at The Cheese and Grain
Family Workshop: Saturday 22nd February, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at The Cheese and Grain.
