Rain, wind, sun and rainbows were all sung about by the children of the Frome Youth Choir at their summer concert called ‘Come Rain or Shine: music for all weathers’ sponsored by the Frome Times.
They performed a wonderful collection of songs on Thursday evening at Christ Church, a venue generously offered free of charge for the occasion. The songs included ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘Heatwave’ ‘The Compass of the Winds’ and the evening ended with ‘Africa’, made famous by Toto and performed with rain effects by the singers.
The children smiled as they sang and the harmonies filled the church. Charlotte Sloane Hill ably accompanied the singers on the piano.
Musical directors Steph Collishaw and Jo Richards talked about how the choir needs more members if it is to continue to afford putting on the wonderful performances like the one last Thursday. Financial reserves are low and money is needed to sustain the regular costs of running the choir.
Steph said, “We believe it’s everyone’s right to be able to sing in a group such as this one and we want to see the choir grow.”
Steph and Jo have put together plans for exciting changes to the choir and will be visiting local first and middle schools in September to tell children how they can get involved. The new regular rehearsal venue will be the Steiner Academy.
Frome College art and design students were asked to come up with a new logo for the choir and the well deserving winner Katie Hinde was voted for by the choir members and the audience on the night of the performance.
If anyone wants to join the choir or just to volunteer time or financial help to make it thrive, please contact the directors by email at fromeyouthchoir@btinternet.com There is no audition to join and the first session is free.
