DRIVERS have been reassured that car parks in Frome are not going cashless.
Mendip District Council – which manages a number of car parks in the town centre including the Cattle Market car park – has confirmed to Frome Times that it has ‘no aspirations’ to ditch cash payments.
The council has spoken out following concern raised by locals that coin-operated payment points were being phased out in favour of online payments via a mobile phone app.
A spokesperson for Mendip District Council told Frome Times, “Many of Mendip car parks offer multiple payment options for customers. And every single one of our car parks offers a cash payment (coins) option, apart from North Parade in Frome.
“North Parade is PayByPhone. It is clearly labelled as such and we list nearby alternative car parking for customers who do not wish to use this method of payment and prefer to use coins.
“Mendip District Council would like to reassure residents that it has no aspirations to move away from cash payments and we will, wherever possible, provide multiple payment solutions.”
