ORGANISERS of Frome’s very first River Festival have hailed it a huge success and have thanked the local community for its support.
Frome River Festival saw a whole week of free talks and activities celebrating the River Frome and with the welcomed arrival of sunshine, it was the perfect excuse for families to get outside and explore.
Organiser Ian Mock, of the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) said, “I would like to say a big thank you to those who came out to support the Somerset Frome River Awareness Festival. Our speakers were superb and the subjects covered during the week ranged from what is happening locally through to catchment level.
“With the best weather we have had so far during the summer, most of our potential audience were out on the river rather than inside, but good contacts were made as a result of the five evening talks and we hope the talks have given people food for thought.
“Thank you to The Wild Trout Trust, The Bristol Avon Catchment Partnership, CATCH, Environment Agency, Bristol Avon Rivers Trust, Prof Mark Everard, Tony ‘otterholic’ House and local naturalist Eve Tigwell, who were all supported every evening by Friends of the River Frome.
“The local river group will be happy to help anyone with any queries about getting involved and BART will be happy to support them where they can.
“Friends of the River Frome can be contacted at
improvethesomersetfrome@gmail.com or via their website.
“Local groups interested in the river will be discussing how best to take the aims of the festival forward in the future.”
