FROME’S new mayor will be appointed this week, alongside the town’s first ever young people’s mayor.
The young people’s mayor will attend social functions, contribute at town council meetings, and work closely with the Mayor of Frome to represent the views of young people. Elections have taken place over the past weeks in a series of events at the youth centre and local schools, with those under 25 eligible to vote.
The young people’s mayor and their deputy will be announced on Wednesday 22nd May at the Annual Town Council meeting. The town’s mayor will be elected by the council on the same evening.
Paul Wynne, town clerk said, “We’re really excited that we will now have two young people supporting the mayor and deputy mayor in civic responsibilities, and advising the council on issues affecting young people.
“This is one way – and only one way – of engaging young people in what the town does and what the town needs.”
