The Frome Food Hub (formerly known as the Frome Food Assembly) is set to hold its launch party, tasting event and pop up Farmers’ Market on Wednesday 21st November.
Pia McGee, co-host of the new Hub explains, “The Food Assembly, which is based in France, officially withdrew from the UK in September. However, our producers and customers were very keen for us to carry on – and so we are now the Frome Food Hub with greater independence and a (much) better new website – but we are still committed to providing the best quality, sustainable and local food to our members.”
Co-host Lindsay Downes adds, “Frome was quick to embrace the Food Assembly concept and it hasn’t lost its appetite for good quality local produce. As the Frome Food hub, we are determined to be even bigger and better than before. We are now able to offer delivery within central Frome, and we are constantly introducing new producers.
“At our tasting event, we will welcome back Frumpy Frome who will be supplying us with homemade, delicious vegan cakes, Mayfield Organic from Bradford on Avon with their organic fruit and veg alongside their Teeny Greeny range of microgreens, and Highland Ridge Larder will be supplying us once a month with a huge range of wild venison. We will also have Glastonbury Ferments returning for this event with their gut-friendly kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut fermented goodies.”
Since its launch in 2013, Frome Food Assembly worked with over 40 local farmers, growers and food makers and had over 2,900 members. The initiative contributed over £250,000 to Frome’s local economy and was featured on BBC Countryfile and Radio 4’s Farming Today. Pia McGee concludes, “We are keen to grow the Frome Food Hub from strength to strength. We hope to welcome lots of new customers to our launch party and show them how easy it is to buy local out of hours. It is free to join, there are no minimum order quantities and no commitment to buy. Come along to our launch on Wednesday 21st, bring some cash to treat yourself, enjoy supper and a glass of wine with us whilst browsing, sampling food and drink and enjoy the friendly atmosphere!”
Frome Food Hub’s tasting event and launch party is 5.30-7.30pm on Wednesday 21st November at the Steiner School main hall in Park Road, Frome. Parking is free. For more information on Frome Food Hub or to join, visit www.fromefoodhub.co.uk
