FROME’S new mayor and deputy mayor have been voted in by councillors, at the Annual Council Meeting on Wednesday 17th May.
The town’s new mayor is cllr Philip Campagna, with cllr Andy Jones as the new deputy mayor. Local people can expect to see the pair out and about in the community and at many of the town’s key events throughout the year.
Outgoing mayor cllr Sara Butler will continue her role as a town councillor for College Ward.
Frome’s mayor cllr Philip Campagna said, “I am honoured to be elected the mayor of Frome and I look forward to meeting many new people doing amazing things in this wonderful town. My aim in the coming year is to work to support the community of Frome, in any way that I can, to help promote and celebrate the many organisations and groups that do so much for so many and to act as a voice for those who need it.
“We still live in difficult times and I have no doubt that the year ahead will be challenging for our community. However, I am very optimistic that Frome has the resilience and character to meet these challenges.
“I feel very proud to be the mayor of this amazingly vibrant and creative town. I approach this year with excitement and optimism.”
Frome’s deputy mayor, cllr Andy Jones said, “I am most looking forward to getting a chance to see the great voluntary work done by lots of people around town. I’m involved with some, know about others, but there’s so much more going on that I want to learn about. In terms of challenges, I’ve found so many welcoming people, keen to talk about what they are doing. I think lack of time is likely to be the main challenge. I am proud to have been selected to be a voice for Frome.”
