A FRIENDLY feline who loves to roam around town and was nominated by local people to win Frome’s Person of the Year award, has been given a special cat award to mark his popularity.
The cat, named Frodo, who is 12 was nominated for being sociable, approachable and friendly. Due to the volume of requests for Frodo to win the Person of the Year, Frome Times has given him his very own golden cat award.
His owner, Anna Davies, says he can often be seen wandering to the Cheese and Grain, Westway Cinema and even the Three Swans pub.
“He’s always been a real people’s cat, he loves attention and he loves to roam,” says Anna, who also owns Frodo’s brother, Loki.
“His brother is totally the opposite to Frodo and he tends to stay at home every day. Initially when we first moved to Frome in December 2022, lots of people would ring me to say ‘your cat is lost’ but he just likes to be out and about.
“He was injured on 5th November, I am not sure what happened to him and I had to keep him in for a week, which he absolutely hated, he really cries. So many people look out for him, Wendy at the pet shop is brilliant and she was the one who contacted me when he had the injury.
“He’s well looked after by everyone!”
One local resident who nominated Frodo for the award said, “He’s a real personality who has decided that the Westway Centre is his. He helps out at a charity shop, keeping the volunteer happy; he’s become the ‘mascot’ at the Cordero Lounge and quality control inspector at the hairdresser’s and, on top of that, the rats, which have been a problem there, don’t dare show their furry snouts in case he’s around.”
Frome hasn’t always been Frodo’s home; he used to live in Trowbridge where he would go to a local school to greet the head teacher every morning. Then he started going to the Tesco and he became known as the Tesco cat. “Frodo’s even been on the BBC because he was so well-known,” added Anna.
