A FROME teenager is making her mark on the tennis court.
14-year-old Imogen Lines, who is in year 9 at Frome College and represents Frome Tennis Club, has recently celebrated success in local tournaments.
Her mother, Sharon Lines, reports, “A wonderful result from Bridgwater tournament (5th/6th March) when Imogen played the number two seeded player in her first match and won the first set. The second set was very close and went to a tiebreak and Imogen just had the edge. She won the tiebreak and therefore the match in 2 sets. 4-2 4-3.
“Imogen reached the semi-final but lost out narrowly to a League player. Imogen got ahead, winning the first 2 games, but the player was too experienced. Imogen lost this match but only by 4-2 4-1.
“Playing for 3rd place Imogen faced the player she had won against in a long, tough final last year and won in two straight sets. A satisfying 4-1 4-1.
“Her 3rd place overall was an absolutely amazing result, we are very pleased as this was only her second tournament at under 16s and against much stronger academy coached players.”
Next up for Imogen was the Bridgwater March All Events Festival, on the weekend of 12/13th March representing Frome in the Girls Under 16s, starting as Number 2 seed.
Sharon Lines reports, “Imogen played a very experienced Welsh League player in the Under 18 band to gain some experience. As was expected, Imogen did not win the match, but certainly made her surprised opponent work for the win, as Imogen took the first two games in the first set and then forced a tie break in Set 2 before losing to the stronger and more experienced girl.
“In her own category, Imogen made it through to the semi-final stage and took the third place spot, losing out on a place in the final by another very close tie break.”
