THE build-up to this year’s carnival got into full swing recently with the Frome Carnival Fun Day, which was the most successful held, raising around £800 for the carnival committee.
Crowds flocked to Victoria Park on Saturday 6th June where they were entertained by the dog show, baby show, live music, Bathampton Morris Men, and fair games for all the family.
Carnival chair, June Barnes said, “The fun day was a huge success, and much better than previous years; we’re very pleased. We took over £1,000 on the day, which when costs are taken out should mean £700-800 will go towards putting on the carnival.
“There were good entries for the baby show, and the dog show went well, too. The whole afternoon was supported very well, and turned out to be our best ever!
“Fundraising is incredibly important to the carnival – without these efforts we couldn’t put it on. We are very grateful for people’s help, and would love for more people to get involved.”
Mayor of Frome, cllr Kate Bielby took to Facebook to thank the committee.
Cllr Bielby wrote, “Thanks to June Barnes and Frome Carnival for such a warm welcome to the brilliant Carnival Fun Day. They’ve done a great job, as usual, so let’s hope they raise lots of money too!”
The fun day is one of the carnival committee’s ways of raising money to put on this year’s main event, which will see floats parade through Frome’s town centre on Saturday 19th September.
Funds are also being raised through the Shop Window Competition, Carnival 100 Club, and other events such as a ladies’ night and the pig race in September.
