COMMUNITY spirit shined at Victoria Park on Saturday 3rd June, as locals enjoyed the Frome Carnival Family Fun Day.
There was ice-cream, a tombola, raffle, performances from local dance groups, the return of bonniest baby competition, a bog show and the selection of the new carnival royalty who will represent the town at this year’s events and the Carnival in September.
Organisations including Fair Frome, Songs for Memory, Avon Valley Runners and more also set up stalls to promote their community-focused work and join in the fun.
“The fun day was a huge success and well-attended by the wonderful people of Frome,” said Mandy Morgan, one of the carnival organisers. “It was officially opened by the mayor of Frome and his deputy. We had more stall holders supporting us than ever before. We also had more entrants for our Carnival Royalty. Our dog show also more entries than ever before.”
Four local organisations that were beneficiaries from last year’s carnival street collection were awarded with cheques.
“Each group received £375,” said Mandy. “The groups were; Fair Frome; 1st Coleford Scout Group; Frome Community Wardrobe and Wessex Counselling.”
Frome’s Mayor cllr Philip Campagna said, “It was so pleasing to see so many people, particularly families, enjoying the Carnival Fun Day in the glorious sunshine. I was able to judge the Carnival Gran, happy to present giant cheques to local organisations from the carnival club and practice my (poor) juggling skills. So much work goes into the organisation, and the carnival committee are to be congratulated for such a successful day.”
The Frome Carnival will take place on Saturday 23rd September.
