Cats In Distress, an independent cat welfare, rehoming and rehabilitation charity which is based in Frome, is appealing for funds to further their work to rehome cats.
The charity says, “Although we are local, we help cats from whatever geographical location, if we have space we will not turn a cat away.
“Since being established in May 2016 we have helped over 130 cats. The charity helps all cats, whether domestic, abandoned or feral. The charity is run by a group of unpaid trustees and volunteers and is founded on the belief of providing care and compassion to animals and people. All money received goes to helping more cats.
“We provide a very personal approach to our work. Cats are very stoic animals and are often reluctant to show their true feelings, it’s only by taking the time to get to know our cats that we are able to find them the right home. Those animals suitable for adoption live in the homes of our fosterers until we find their perfect home. We get to know each and every animal and all prospective adopters are personally vetted and visited before we allow them to meet our cats. It’s like a personalised dating service for humans to find their true feline partner and because we take such care, we have a very successful rehoming rate.
“Up until now, the charity has been run with one emergency pen and the foster homes, but this limits the type of cats we can admit and the number of cats we can help. The charity has plans to expand and develop a rescue centre. This plan quite unexpectedly moved one step closer recently with the purchase of five outdoor foster pens.
“Whilst very welcome, this purchase has left the charity with depleted funds and as such, an appeal has been launched to help pay for the new pens. We have raised nearly £1,400 towards our £2,000 target, but are appealing for more donations to help us achieve our goal.”
Donations can be made by cheque made payable to Cats In Distress and sent to Rectory Cottage Berkley Frome BA11 5JH. Or via the donate button on www.cats-in-distress.org. For more information about the charity and its work please contact Ginny Parratt, trustee, on 07504 129955.
