The HBC summer event this year will again be in Wesley Church, Frome, on Thursday 26th July and Friday 27th July from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.
Organisers say, “This is a totally free event for all children aged 5 to 10 years, so come along and enjoy games, crafts, puppets, and drama. Bring your friends, and learn all about Noah and his ark!”

  • Frome boy raises vital funds for local therapy centre A boy from Frome has donated £130 to a local MS therapy centre that has been supporting his mum for many years. Archie, 10, made and sold colourful pompom decorations, donating the funds to the Wessex MS Centre in Warminster. The centre helps people with multiple sclerosis access a range of physical, emotional, and social therapies tailored to manage symptoms, promote independence and enhance overall wellbeing. Archie’s mum, Rebecca, has been a member of the centre for many years and used to bring Archie along as a baby while attending her therapy sessions. Chief Executive Officer of the centre, Rosie, said, “Archie’s hard work and enthusiasm captured the spirit of community fundraising and made a real difference to the centre. Read more on our website.   • Frome Lions Club’s annual sponsored swim returns The 39th annual Frome Lions Club sponsored swim is back in March, and clubs and organisations are invited to take part. The event will run on Sunday 8th March at Frome Leisure Centre. Funds raised will be split between the Frome Lions Club Charitable Trust and the teams themselves.   • New website for Frome Town FC Frome Town FC has launched a new club website. It will feature match reports, match previews, highlights and post-match interviews as well as other news about the club. Match tickets can also be bought for home games on the site. Manager, Danny Greaves, said, “The new website looks great and is much more representative of the standards we want to set as a club on and off the pitch “We pride ourselves on great communication, and keeping our fans informed and up to date, and the new website was a missing component. “It’s another great step in the right direction from our excellent media and communications team.” Read more on our website.   • International Women’s Day in Frome Frome is marking International Women’s Day (IWD) with events designed to entertain and bring people together, while opening up important conversations and raising awareness. Kicking off the programme of events is the annual ‘Lightning Talks’. Submissions are now open for ideas for a five-minute ‘lightning talk’ via the link at the foot of this article. Open to anyone with an idea to share to ‘touch, move or inspire’ within the International Women’s Day theme for 2026: Give to Gain’. The date for Lightning Talks will be announced soon. On Saturday 7th March, Frome Town Council is welcoming Lu Featherstone, motivational speaker, influencer and performer to the Frome Saturday market. Along with her 32-foot vintage American bus ‘Susie’, Lu will spread the message of the vital positive role of male allyship, sharing information about Frome’s White Ribbon campaign and providing a space to chat, reflect and engage. Paul Lashmar will be speaking about his latest book, Drax of Drax Hall: How One British Family Got Rich (and Stayed Rich) Through Slavery and Sugar, at an event hosted by Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books on Thursday 26th February at The Archangel in King Street.   • Frome celebrates love at annual Valentine’s Day ceremony Frome
  • Learn about fostering at friendly drop-in session in Frome Residents in Frome who are curious about fostering are being invited to a relaxed information session on Thursday 26th February. The drop-in event, hosted by Fostering in Somerset, offers a chance to speak informally with local foster carers over a free coffee and slice of cake. The session aims to give people a realistic insight into what fostering involves, with no pressure to take your interest further. Staff and carers will be on hand to answer questions, share experiences and explain the support available, including full training and weekly payments. “The event is designed to be welcoming and accessible, making it an ideal first step for anyone wanting to explore fostering in a supportive, informal setting,” said Lead Cllr Heather Shearer, Member for Children, Families and Education at Somerset Council.   • New homes to be built on North Parade car park By Local Democracy Reporter Daniel Mumby Nearly 20 new low-cost homes will be built on North Parade car park after three years of delays. The North Parade car park, located off North Hill Mews in Frome, was identified by Mendip District Council as a site for potential social housing in November 2020. The council – and its unitary successor, Somerset Council – have subsequently been working with the Stonewater housing association on proposals to build on the site, securing a land swap with the neighbouring Farleigh Further Education College in mid-2021. Stonewater formally applied in May 2023 for permission to build 18 new low-cost, low-carbon homes on the car park, comprising nine flats and nine houses. Somerset Council has now granted permission for the scheme nearly three years on, meaning construction could get under way by the late summer. The site lies to the north of the railway line running through Frome, within walking distances of both Rodden Meadow and the Saxonvale regeneration site. Read more on our website.
