NEXT Saturday the Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show returns to West Woodlands Show Ground near Frome.
It is set to be a jam-packed day with 1,500 cheese exhibits and a variety of entertainment and attractions, including a live cookery demonstration from the winner of last year’s The Great British Bake Off competition, Syabira Yusoff, an extreme bike battle and an appearance by Gem from CBeebies’ Swashbuckle.
The event, on Saturday 9th September, will include returning cheese-related favourites including the renowned cheese pavilion with over 1,500 cheese exhibits, the famous cheese auction, the Global Cheese Awards, cheese traders, cheese bar and cookery theatre. New this year is the introduction of some new classes in the Global Cheese Awards including best newcomer and a plant-based alternative class.
“2023 will be our 162nd year as the Frome & District Agricultural Society,” said Charlotte O’Neill, the showground development & competitions manager. “There will be 10 competitive sections including; cattle, sheep, dairy goats, pygmy goats, horses, egg, fodder & grain, horticulture, home & handicraft together with the Global Cheese Awards.
“As well as the competitions, we have over 300 trade stands, a music stage, cookery theatre, entertainment rings, a lake and machinery demonstrations.
“The Little Show Goers Play Zone is a brand-new feature being introduced at the 2023 Show! We understand the cost of living has been difficult for a lot of families in our local community and so we have partnered with some amazing businesses to put together a completely new, free zone which is full of activities, crafts and games for the children to enjoy.
“Joining us will be: Purple Elephant & Frome Children’s Festival, Sophie Aina Face Painting, Junk Jodie Art & Storytelling, Marlowe’s Makes Imagiplay, Arty Kids Pottery Painting, Frome NCT and more!
“Gem from Cbeebies’ Swashbuckle will be taking to the music stage for a pirate themed performance as well as the incredible Bike Battle in the Village Green. Not forgetting the Cheese Pavilion which will be filled with over 700 cheeses, who will be participating in the Global Cheese Awards.
“Syabira Yusoff who won the Great British Bake Off in 2022 will also be making an appearance on the cookery theatre for a cookery demonstration and Q&A session.”
