Frome Town Council is linking up with the Big Lunch to encourage residents to host street parties, so people can get know their neighbours better and have a Big Lunch street party this summer.
Created by the Eden Project in 2009, the Big Lunch’s (big) idea has proved incredibly popular throughout the UK. Last year’s Big Lunch – the seventh annual event – saw over seven million people organise community parties and events in parks, streets and even back gardens.
This year’s Big Lunch coincides with the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations on Sunday 12th June. Kate Hellard, community projects officer for the Town Council said, “We’ve created a pack for residents to guide them through organising their event this summer.
“There’s lots of practical advice, including information on road closures, as well as help with things like risk assessments and insurance, plus general hints and tips, and things like posters and ideas for food.”
The pack is available on the Council’s website and paper copies are available on request.

Mendip District Council is the local authority to contact about closing a street, this procedure can take up to 12 weeks to process so applicants should ensure their completed application form and supporting information is received at the District Council offices in good time.
