A golden landmark will be celebrated when the Frome Selwood Horticulture Society hosts its 50th Annual Show at Selwood Academy on Saturday 25th August, from 1pm.
The society has grown to be a thriving evergreen in Frome since its beginnings at the old technical college in Park Road in 1966. Germinating from the natural competition between vegetable and flower growers, the first show was held in 1968.
The heritage of the club is now inscribed in the variety of cups and trophies up for winning. Names that are synonymous with their speciality, such as the Holton and Lintern cup for vegetables, and the Fred Phillips Trophy for best pot plant, have been added to with recent cups recognising late members, Mike Meaden for begonias and Joan Biggs for water colour painting.
Above all, the club thrives from its friendship with a common interest, so why not come along to see what the members have grown, baked, photographed or painted. A colourful, golden afternoon is assured, with teas on sale to encourage ambling.
Please note: Follow signs to the new venue at the school, as the hall is not available. For more details call Jane Norris on 0777 620 8531.
