LOCAL artist, Naomi Incledon, has painted Welshmill graffiti wall and has received compliments from children, parents, teenagers and passers-by.
Naomi said, “It is a bright, cheerful, celebratory piece featuring a peacock, which I designed to make the play area more child-friendly. I am a mature art student and this was assignment 3 of my degree.
“I researched the wall and found that there had been some concerns about the designs on it frightening children so I made a child-friendly design. It is based on a Kolam design from Kuala Lumpa. My brief was to create some post audio art, so I looked at street art and public art and came to this conclusion. I emailed Chris Stringer at Frome Town Council for permission before beginning and he came to have a look while I was painting and took a pic to go on his website.
“As I was painting, everyone was shouting compliments at me from the street, road and park, such as “beautiful!” Or “that looks amazing.” Parents thanked me and children loved it. Since then, the compliments have been flowing from everyone who sees it.
“To be honest, I was nervous about doing it and was not sure how it would be received, so it’s been a lot of fun. Social media buzzed about it a little, so I feel I achieved my goal to create a child-friendly atmosphere.”
