PETER John, the county councillor for Frome North, has presented a cheque from Somerset County Council for £1,000 to the Frome platoon of the Somerset Army Cadet Force.
The funds have come from the council’s Health and Well Being budget which gives each county councillor a one off sum of £10,000 to spend this year on supporting groups and organisations in their local areas, with an emphasis on projects aimed at promoting health and general wellbeing. Many and varied organisations across the county have benefited from a share of these funds.
Peter said, “It gives me great pleasure to be able to support the platoon in this practical way. We are all aware of the tremendous job the platoon does in supporting community events in the town, particularly their band, in providing the music at the annual Remembrance Day parade.
“The cadet force provides valuable development and community involvement opportunities for younger members of our society. The Frome platoon thoroughly deserve this award.”
The money will be used to purchase outdoor activity items such as rucksacks, tents and general physical training equipment.
