Frome Times interview director and choreographer of Grease, Vicki Klein
WITH tickets selling fast for Frome Musical Theatre’s spring performance, Grease, the Frome Times spoke to director and choreographer, Vicki Klein, about the upcoming show.
Vicki has vast experience having directed shows at the Bristol Hippodrome, the Western Playhouse and Theatre Royal Bath. She has also worked at the BBC in Bristol, creating large scale shows and events.
Vicki has also directed FMTC’s performances of Our House in 2014 and Hairspray in 2015.
How are rehearsals going?
Rehearsals are going really well, we have a very talented cast working really hard.
How are the cast and production team feeling about this production?
Enthusiastic, the show and movie are so popular and loved – the cast are losing weight because of the dancing!
Are there any particular challenges you’ve come across when rehearsing?
We have decided to make our own set especially for this production and for the Memorial Theatre stage. We’ve designed the set so it will look like the inside of a juke box, it will be really brightly coloured.
There’s just a month to go before opening night and already over 75% of tickets have sold – do you think it will be a sell out?
Yes absolutely!
What can people expect from the show?
People will expect the Grease they’ve seen in the movies and I’ve stayed true to the idea. The show features the well known songs and is completely 1950s.
What would you say to anyone who has never been to see a FMTC production before?
If they come to see Grease they won’t be disappointed and will wonder why they haven’t been to see an FMTC production before!
The group has a long history of putting on excellent productions of which i have had the pleasure of directing three now. I think people will be pleasantly surprised at the standard of the production.
