THERE has been an enthusiastic response to Frome’s first ever Sprint Distance Triathlon, with all places for the event on Sunday 18th August filled.
Competitors will take on a 400m pool swim at Frome Leisure Centre, 23k bike ride through surrounding villages, followed by a 5k run along paths and the Frome College fields.
The event is being organised by Frome Triathlon Club. Kirsty Cary of the club said, “We have 200 competitors, which is amazing for our first event. We aimed the race at first-time triathletes and novices. Many Frome people have signed up, along with other triathlon clubs from around the county.
“We now have a waiting list in operation, just in case any of the competitors are unable to compete on the day.
“The race will start at 8.00am in the pool at Frome Leisure Centre and competitors will finish on the college playing field where our sponsors, trade stands and spectators will welcome them across the finish line.
“Our sponsors are Avalon Leisure, who have helped with the venue; Live2ride were keen to be involved from day one and have always been closely linked to Frome Triathlon Club and will be at the race displaying several bikes and biking equipment. Paul Ryman Fitness – Paul Ryman is a very successful triathlete who competes for Great Britain in the sport and also is a top triathlon coach and personal trainer. Tony Pryce Sports will also be at the finish, displaying all sorts of sporting equipment. It has been a great response from the sponsors who are all Frome businesses.
“If successful, then this is a definite race for the future and hopefully it will become bigger so that more people can be involved.”
