Golden Globe and two-time Grammy nominee, country and folk songstress Gretchen Peters announces this Cambridge Folk Festival warm-up concert at the Cheese and Grain on Friday 31st July.
Since the release of her “career album” (NPR), 2012’s ‘Hello Cruel World’, she has been in near-constant motion, touring prolifically throughout the past two years.
2014 saw her both headline her own sold-out tours, support country and folk legends Guy Clark, Arlo Guthrie and John Prine (duetting with the latter at several shows), whilst also appearing at a number of renowned UK festivals including Glastonbury.
The latest accolade for the Nashville-based singer-songwriter was her induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in October 2014. There she joined names like Johnny Cash, Rodney Crowell, Don & Phil Everly, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Tom T. Hall, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams.
Gretchen has received awards as a songwriter for artists as diverse as Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, The Neville Brothers, Patty Loveless, George Strait, Bryan Adams and Faith Hill. She has risen to the top of her craft by writing songs that explore the deep corners of life with empathy and integrity. Her music touches on dark realities, yet ultimately it is profoundly beautiful and uplifting.
This year’s release of her much-anticipated new album, ‘Blackbirds’, includes such impressive new material to showcase that this really is the ideal time to catch the marvellous Gretchen Peters in concert.
Performing at the Cheese & Grain on Friday 31st July. Doors: 8.00pm. Tickets: £20 adv.stbf – Unreserved Seating.
