OVER 1,500 single-use items have been saved from going to landfill thanks to a Frome woman and her eco-friendly party packages.
Tillie Mabbutt set up her business, Frome Eco Party Packages, in May, offering customers the opportunity to rent out reusable tableware for parties to help them combat waste and host more sustainable parties.
Tillie says, “To make one paper plate it takes eight gallons of water and creates the equivalent carbon emissions of driving 34 miles in a car! Times that by 20 or more, which is the average number of kids at a party, and you can clearly see it’s adding to the already pressing issue of waste and climate change.”
“We have been going since May and have had a great response. Frome families are clearly looking at how they are can change habits to help our planet and their wallets.
“So far, Frome has saved 1,596 single use items from going to landfill by hiring our reusable tableware!
Our ‘Ultimate Party Package’ costs just £10 (+ £5 refundable deposit) to hire and contains: 20 plates, 20 cups, 10 snack bowls, 4 food platters, 2 drink jugs, 1 fabric birthday bunting, and 2 compostable food waste bags.
“If you’re hiring for a child who attends a local school or nursery, we will donate 15% to their PTA.
“For some people, they like single-use versions because they don’t have to do the washing up, which as a busy parent myself, I totally get. So we can do it for you, we just keep the deposit.”
