A LOCAL author was inspired to write her first novel whilst looking at the deeds of her house – where she has lived since 1986.
Allison Click, who lives in Great Elm, is a short story writer and creative writing teacher, has recently had her book entitled Two Blackberry Lane, printed by a local publisher.
Speaking about her writing, she said, “I was inspired to write the short story when I was looking at the deeds to my house in Great Elm, just outside Frome.
“Our house was built in the 1860s and the deeds show the names of some of the people who have lived here over the years, and how much – or little, they paid for the property. “
Allison says her novel is like, but not inspired by a known television programme, and was first printed as a short story in a magazine 20 years ago.
She continued, “My novel is a bit like the TV programme, A House Through Time, but is a fictitious account of a house in Somerset and the people who live there from the 1940s through to the present day.
“However, I didn’t get the idea from the TV programme – the novel was originally published as a short story in 2002 in Woman’s Weekly magazine.”
Allison has had more than 50 short stories published in the UK and abroad – several being broadcast on Radio 4 and two of her short plays have been performed in Frome and Bristol.
