FROME town centre has lost another shop, after Matthew Paul Interiors is to close after five years of trading, blaming low footfall and an increase in electricity bills.
The shop in Bath Street had been open since 2018 and sold interior accessories and gifts. It will close on Saturday 17th June.
In a Facebook post announcing closure, owner of the shop, Matt Gilman said, “After almost five years I have taken the very difficult decision to close my shop.
“Sadly, things are not the same as they were back in 2018, I have hung on hoping things would get better but the shop and Frome in general are still so quiet, this on top of three times increase for electricity has made it impossible to carry on.”
However, Matt is hopeful he may return to the town when things have improved. He said, “As sad as it is I am feeling very optimistic about the future, in a year or two if the country gets back on its feet, I may well come back with something new.”
