Frome’s International Climate Film Festival – The Climates – is back next month for its second year.
It offers inspiring and life-changing films from Frome, the UK and overseas about responses to the climate crisis, free workshops and an art installation.
The festival is on 13th May at the George Hotel and Granary, Frome with free entry, with a winners’ showcase on 20th May at the Little Theatre Cinema, Bath
The festival was devised and created in Frome in 2022 by James Godman as a result of the lack of tangible action resulting from COP 26 and the lack of visibility of the need for urgent change.
“The festival vision and mission is to have a free and inclusive festival with no barriers to connect, share, support and to inspire green change,” said James. “The vision is also to grow this locally, nationally and internationally with micro Climates festivals focusing on art, music and technology through the year.
“The first year of the festival took place in the Town Hall, supported by the wonderful Frome Town Council, with 18 films submitted and 10 workshops on films, film making and the environment. For year two, the festival moves into the heart of the town at The George Hotel and Granary.
“We have over 35 film entries from countries including Austria, France, Holland and Switzerland and over six hours of reel-time from 11am. We will also have a Climate Film Showcase: the internationally acclaimed film Finite by Rich Felgate, a real coup for the festival.
“We are running free workshops including one by Celestial, our fantastic local drone company, another by Edventure, which hosts the annual Green and Healthy Week – and one by James L Levelle, inspiring adventurer and filmmaker. Workshops will cover animation, reuse, recycling, body and nature.
“The festival crescendo is the presentation of the awards, created by local sculptor Anthony Rogers, followed by a fantastic post awards party with music by local musicians, all part of The Music Network in Frome.
“The 13th May festival is followed on the 20th May by a red carpet celebration featuring the winning films and directors at The Little Theatre Cinema in Bath. The event includes another Climate Film Showcase, James M Levelle’s film ‘Race for the Future’. Our amazing support this year includes the donation of a new Laptop from Everything IT in Bath.
“It will be a fantastic event for Frome. Tickets are available on Eventbrite and via the http://climatefilmfestival.co.uk website link.
“Please get involved! ‘Remember you can change your world but together we can change the whole world’.
