Issue 283 – Guitar signed by stars to be auctioned for charity

A music shop in Frome has joined forces with local folk singer Cara Dillon and donated a guitar, which has been signed by some of the music industry’s biggest names, to auction off for charity.

The acoustic guitar, which was donated by Sounds of Frome, was taken to London’s Abbey Road studio by Frome folkster Cara Dillon who was recording for the new BBC Children In Need charity single ‘All You Need Is Love’.
For the recording, Cara was joined by some of the country’s biggest names including Peter Gabriel, Midge Ure, Sir Terry Wogan, Bryan Ferry, Bill Wyman, Nick Mason, and more.
Cara said, “A friend of ours, Leander Morales, is raising money for Bath Royal United Hospital’s “Forever Friends” and “Space to Grow” campaign.
“Our twin boys, Colm and Noah, were born at 26 weeks and spent three months there, being cared for by the amazing nurses in a very cramped environment with a lack of facilities. We have already raised several thousand pounds for the appeal by collecting money at concerts.
“We thought taking a guitar would be a great opportunity to get a bunch of celebrity signatures to help towards the appeal, so Sounds of Frome kindly donated an acoustic guitar for us to take along and get signed.”
Amongst those who signed the guitar was Sir Terry Wogan, who on the same day announced his retirement as a radio DJ. Others who signed the guitar included Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones, Nick Mason from Pink Floyd, Sharon Corr, Adrian Edmunson, Clare Teal, and Bronagh Gallagher from the Commitments.
The guitar will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to Bath Royal United Hospital’s ‘Forever Friends’ and ‘Space to Grow’ campaign.
Kim Hyde, owner of Sounds of Frome said, “Cara is a customer at the shop and it was a pleasure to help out like this for such a good cause. For it to be signed by Terry Wogan on the day that he announced his retirement is quite something!”
