Police are still looking for a thief who stole four collecting tins from shops in Frome’s town centre. The money stolen had been donated by shoppers to benefit Frome-based Positive Action on Cancer.
The thefts took place on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th January. The charity’s ‘Splash of Purple’ day took place on the Friday, with local people wearing something purple to raise money and awareness for the charity.
Speaking on behalf of the charity, Rosie Eliot said, “One of the collections was taken from the Old Bakehouse bakery and it was later found in St Johns Church. The bakery has been great though and has since collected an amazing £113.79. The other tins were taken from Frome Wholefoods, Frome Pet & Aquatics, and Ellenbray.”
Shops and businesses in Frome all did their bit, many of them having a collection tin in their premises.
Local schools held mufti days to raise money on the day, and businesses all held collections for the charity.
Altogether, despite the thefts, the day raised nearly £3,000. Rosie added, “Aside from the thefts, the day was very successful. We were delighted with the response from the community.”

Golf club raises £3,350
Dave Wye and Lucy Difazio, the golf club captains at Orchardleigh Golf Club, were kept busy during 2009 raising funds for Positive Action on Cancer.
Holding various fundraising events such as raffles, tombolas and captains’ days where the teams were involved in putting on competitions and play offs, they managed to raise a fantastic £3,350 over the year.
PAC spokesperson Rosie Eliot said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive such a generous amount that will go towards our Listening Ear Appeal. Dave, Lucy and their teams have worked extremely hard and we are very grateful to all of them for choosing PAC as their charity of the year.”
If you would like to nominate Positive Action on Cancer as your charity of the year to support their Listening Ear Appeal please contact Rosie on 01373 455255.
