FOR the third year running, customers of the Griffin Inn in Frome have raised in excess of £1,000 for the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group.
In the last financial year they raised £1,327 and to recognise their generosity, the support group presented the Milk Street pub with a certificate to mark this achievement.
To raise the money, the pub organises a weekly quiz, as well as a series of other fund raising events. The owner of the Griffin and the Milk Street Brewery, Rik Lyall said, “The certificate represents the ongoing generosity of our customers who feel very strongly about the charity and the good that it does.”
The certificate was presented to Charlie Thomas the manager of the Griffin by representatives of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, Tino Polledri, vice-chairman of BCUSG and chairman of its fund raising branch based in Trowbridge, together with Reg Jefferies, committee member and web liaison of the branch, and Martin Bax who has also raised money for the unit in the past and collects for the charity.
The charity has just celebrated its 25th anniversary and in that time has generated over £3million with the sole aim of improving the care, comfort and treatment facilities for patients attending the cancer unit at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
The group, all volunteers, ensure that for every pound donated, at least 95p is ploughed back into the unit. This has enabled the charity to provide two state-of-the-art linear accelerators, used in the treatment of cancer, as well as financial support for a number of major projects including the stylish and comfortable reception and waiting area for day patients and the recent donation to the Frome-based charity, PAC (Positive Action on Cancer).
