THE centre of Frome was shut off for over two hours on Thursday 24th June after a bomb scare in the town.
Members of NatWest alerted the police after they found a suspicious package in the bank’s safe deposit box, shortly before 5.00pm.
A 100m cordon was set up around the area. Shop staff and members of the public were evacuated from the area, while motorists were diverted. The EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) were called in and carried out a controlled explosion at 7.15pm. The area was reopened shortly afterwards.
A police spokesperson said it may not ever be ascertained what was in the suspicious package.
