Frome Amateur Operatic Society’s (FAOS) performance of the pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ has been hailed a success after audiences packed out Frome Memorial Theatre despite snow laden weather.
The pantomime ran from Wednesday 29th December until Sunday 2nd of January with eight performances.
Director Jo Plenty said, “The show was very well received with lots of positive feedback and audience members noting the great entertainment value.
“There was the boos and hisses for the villains but also the pantomime stuck to the traditional story; not too clever and not too silly, but a colourful family pantomime.
“The children in the audience were able to get on stage and interact with the performers and sing songs with them towards the end of the show on stage. All of the performances were well attended, even though the snowfall made travel difficult.”
Long-term performer for FAOS, Humphrey Barnes, who has played the Dame around 20 times and has been involved with the society since 1951 will reportedly hang up his performance shoes, with ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ being his last pantomime.
Jo said, “He says this will be his last, but we will see!
“I would just like to thank everyone who was involved with the performance, there was tremendous support from the whole company and everybody really did give it their all.”
The next production from FAOS will be the musical ‘Sweet Charity’ which will be directed by Andrew Carpenter with Debbie Haines as choreographer and Kerry Bishop as musical director. The show will take place from Tuesday the 10th of May until Saturday the 14th of May. Rehearsals commence on Monday 10th January.
