Merlin Theatre Youth Company present ‘Fame the Musical’ on Thursday 25th to Saturday 27th August at 7.00pm
This high energy show, full of musical numbers and dance sequences, involves a cast of over 60 local young people.
Auditions were held back in April where the lead parts, dances and chorus were cast. Now it’s Showtime! Following rehearsals and a 10-day intensive workshop led by a professional creative team, the Merlin Theatre Youth Company will perform the popular stage musical based on the 1980 film about students at New York City’s High School of Performing Arts.
Claudia Pepler will direct the production, assisted by Amy Morgan-Bell (dance) and Jamie Mason (musical director). This is a really exciting community project involving a large main cast, and including a group of young people who have taken part in the summer holiday Hip Hop workshop at the Merlin. It will truly showcase the talents and abilities of all involved.
The story begins as a group of vibrant, energetic young people gather to audition to study at New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. Under the guidance of teacher Miss Sherman the class learns that it takes a lot more than dreams to succeed. The students acknowledge that it takes hard work. Follow their dreams through all the challenges that the students face on their journey to fame.
Tickets are £8.50 (£7.00 concessions) and ‘Fame the Musical’ is recommended for age 12 plus. The show commences at 7.00pm. Reserve on-line www.merlintheatre. co.uk or call 01373 465949
