A monster musical phenomenon direct from San Francisco and the only date in the West or South West!
The Cheese & Grain welcome the legendary psychedelic rockers, Jefferson Starship to Frome as part of their worldwide 40th Anniversary Tour on 31st January.
To celebrate, the band will be performing the classic Jefferson Airplane album ‘Surrealistic Pillow’ in it’s entirety, together with a host of other great songs from their incredible career spanning four decades.
Jefferson Airplane were the first ever rock band to sign to a major label (RCA) with the seminal ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘White Rabbit’ turning them into the most successful outfit in the States along with legendary performances at Woodstock and Monterey.
Jefferson Starship themselves have also achieved worldwide acclaim with the multi-million selling hit ‘Somebody To Love’ and are one of the most critically acclaimed acts touring today, direct descendants of Jefferson Airplane with messrs Freiberg and Kantner still at the helm, crucial elements in developing the West Coast sound which changed the course of rock music forever.
The current line up features two of the founding members in Paul Kantner and David Frieberg. Kantner being a founder member of Jefferson Airplane and a true rock god, with Frieberg also being part of the legendary ‘Airplane.’
Drummer Donny Baldwin has a musical CV few can match, having played and recorded with such luminaries as Chuck Berry, Cold Blood, Elvin Bishop, Gregg Allman, Jerry Garcia, Heart, Kenny Loggins, Pablo Cruise, Van Morrison etc. Guitarist Mark ‘Slick’ Aguilar is the longest serving axeman in the band’s history, formerly playing with David Crosby and KC & The Sunshine Band.
Keyboard Wizard Tom Constanten is a former member of the Grateful Dead and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Last and by no means least, is amazing vocalist Cathy Richardson who is also lead singer with Big Brother and the Holding Co., even portraying the legendary Janis Joplin in the original Broadway cast of the hit musical ‘Love, Janis’.
Support comes from Federal Charm, hotly tipped blues rockers who have won plaudits from the likes of Classic Rock Magazine for their “Swaggering riffs, sleazy slide flourishes and cinder raw vocals, citing Led Zeppelin and Free as major influences!”
Don’t miss one of the most influential-ever bands in the musical event of the year! Support: Federal Charm plus The Amelia Orgill Duo.
