A family Fun Day and Skate Jam will be held next month at the skatepark in the Mary Baily Field, adjacent to Victoria Park.
The event, taking place on Saturday 10th May, is being organised by Frome Skatepark Project, a community group raising funds for a new skatepark in Frome.
The day promises excitement and fun for the whole family, featuring best trick competitions and music.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the skate jam from 1pm to 4pm, which welcomes all wheeled sports enthusiasts, including skateboarders, roller skaters, scooter riders and BMX bikers—whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner.
There will also be free skate lessons for young people aged 8 to 18 from 10am to 12pm (booking essential), along with activities to keep younger children entertained throughout the event.
This vibrant community gathering, organised in conjunction with Frome Town Council, also provides an opportunity for people to share their thoughts and ideas on the future of the skatepark, including a potential new location within the Mary Baily Field.
One of the founders of Frome Skatepark Project, Ed Bucklow, said, “Frome is in desperate need of a new skatepark, and we can’t wait to canvass opinion on our proposals from the town’s wheeled sports community. We’re keen to gather a wish list of what users would like to see in a new design—their favourite aspects of the current park and anything else they’d like included.”
This event follows a highly successful skate jam in September.
“The skate jam in September was a fantastic day, and I encourage everyone who uses the park or wants to see the facilities improved to come along, have some fun, and most importantly, have your say,” added Ed.
A spokesperson for Frome Town Council said, “Wheeled sports offer numerous benefits for young people, providing not only an exciting way to stay active but also fostering a sense of community, resilience and creativity.
“Participating in activities like skateboarding, BMX and scootering helps young people develop physical fitness, coordination and balance, while also promoting mental well-being through stress relief and the joy of outdoor activity. Moreover, these sports encourage self-expression and perseverance as participants continually challenge themselves to learn new tricks and skills.
“The Family Fun Day and Skate Jam aims to celebrate the vibrant wheeled sports culture in Frome while gathering valuable community feedback on the current skatepark and Frome Skatepark Project’s proposals.”
Frome Skatepark Project and Frome Town Council are eager to hear from residents of all ages about their hopes for the future of the skatepark.
“So, grab your skateboard, roller skates, scooter or BMX and head to Victoria Park on 10th May for a day of fun, competition and community spirit,” encouraged the spokesperson.
