Pancake day and Valentine’s Day are being marked this month with a family-friendly event in the town centre.
On Saturday 14th February, from midday there will be coffee, crêpes, crafts, face painting, a Valentine’s ‘selfie booth’, games, a giveaway of Bonne Maman jam and chocolate spread and a raffle raising funds for Frome Skatepark Project at the Boyle Cross.
The Blue House is open from 1pm to 3pm, selling tea and coffee on their forecourt.
At 1pm and every five to 10 minutes until 3pm, a series of pancake ‘dashes’ will set off from outside The Blue Boar and makes its way up to the finish line by Boyle Cross. The pancake dashes are for up to six participants at a time and suitable for all ages and abilities. Everyone who takes part can show their medal at the crêpe van to claim a free crêpe with Bonne Maman jam or hazelnut chocolate spread.
Marketing and Communications Manager Rachel Griffin said, “Frome already has a unique Valentine’s Day tradition in the lighting of our lovely Valentine Lamp on Catherine Hill. This year the fun starts from midday, so come down and enjoy lots of fun activities, a sweet treat and try your hand at the pancake dash.”
Organiser of the raffle in aid of Frome Skatepark Project, Sue Bucklow, said, “We’re really looking forward to being part of the ‘Stacks of Love’ event organised by Frome Town Council.
“We will be launching our 2026 fundraising campaign with an amazing raffle where every ticket bought will help us realise our £400,000 grand total. Prizes include a beautiful hamper donated by Bonne Maman full of all their delicious products and an array of Frome Skatepark Project merchandise…sweatshirts, T-shirts, mugs and our limited edition skatedeck (with a few surprises thrown in too). So come and say hello and hear how you can get involved, having your say on Maverick’s preliminary design for Frome’s new skatepark either online or in person on Friday 13th March.”
The road will be closed from Cork Street to Bridge Street from midday until approximately 4pm, although all car parks remain open throughout. Notices in bus stops will indicate affected services.
Prior booking is recommended for the pancake dash but walk-ups are possible on the day, subject to availability. The event runs from 12pm to 3pm in the town centre, with pancake dashes from 1pm to 3pm. Book a pancake dash place at bit.ly/pancake-race-2026.
