FROME actress, Kayleigh-Paige Rees, began filming last week on a new sitcom set to air on Amazon Prime this summer.
Kayleigh-Paige – who in 2019 starred in ITV’s blockbuster period drama, ‘Sanditon’, based on Jane Austen’s last unfinished novel – will play the lead role in the six-part series, ‘All About Casey’.
Kayleigh-Paige told Frome Times, “I’m very excited and nervous, it’s the first time I’ve played the sole lead in a series, so I feel a lot of responsibility – but I can’t wait to step into a comic role again and have fun with the character. We start filming tomorrow (19th May) and I can’t wait to bring Casey to life.”
The sitcom, written and directed by newcomer Zandie Thornton, centres on a British woman in her 20s. Production company Raspberry Films says, “Casey tries her best, but navigating her twenties is hard work. Generally, not the most graceful individual, it’s safe to say she ungracefully bundles her way through life’s hurdles rather than jumping them and has a real knack for making everything more complicated than it ought to be.”
Kayleigh-Paige’s co-star will be West End star Jodie Steele, who played Katherine Howard in the 2019-20 UK your of Six the Musical, and is probably best known for playing Elphaba in Wicked, Heather Chandler in Heathers and Sherrie in Rock of Ages.
As well as starring in the series, Kayleigh-Paige is also part of the production team. She said, “We really wanted to make a series that shows the representation of real, diverse women and give a voice to the everyday girl just trying to get through life. We are so excited for Jodie to be joining us on this production, she’s such a delight!”
About her own production company – which has a big slate of projects – Kayleigh-Paige told Frome Times, “We currently have a film I’m producing/shooting in Liverpool starring Crissy Rock and Paul Barber. Producing means that we are part of the decision making process in every part, including pre-production, writing, editing, distribution.
“Producers are the glue – they tend to bring all the parts together. Acting is an incredibly creative job and I love it. Producing then allows me to help and work on more projects even if I’m not creatively involved in it.”
