The latest public ‘Defibrillator Awareness’ event for the Frome area will be held on Saturday morning, 26th September, at Chapmanslade Village Hall.
The event is being organised by the community of Chapmanslade in support of the Friends of Frome Hospital who have installed a network of 20 life-saving public access defibrillators (PAD) across Frome and in the villages that are provided with medical services from the Health Park, at Enos Way.
The aim of the morning is to demonstrate to people with little or no knowledge of medical matters on how to calmly react and use a life-saving defibrillator at an emergency cardiac arrest situation. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, of any age, at anytime, anywhere.
A specialist SW Ambulance approved responder team from Bristol-based AED Locators will be conducting demonstrations at 10.00am, 11.00am and 12.00noon during the morning.
Project leader for the Friends of Frome Hospital Defibrillator Programme, Derek Trick says, “This defibrillator awareness event is entirely at the initiative of the Chapmanslade village community, who will be using the morning to raise funds to support the on-going upkeep of the defibrillator located at their Three Horseshoes public house in the village.
“A special invitation has also been sent out to the people of Corsley, Standerwick, Trudoxhill villages who have the Friends’ defibrillators installed, and to Nunney who will have their unit placed shortly, but of course anyone from Frome will be most welcome.
“The village hall will be open from 9.30am and we understand there will be bacon or sausage sandwiches and teas and coffee throughout the morning. It’s going to be a great atmosphere, a good informal social event, but importantly an informative session to learn the techniques of how to react if confronted with a cardiac emergency.
“Last September over 300 people attended the Cheese and Grain defibrillator awareness session. It is hoped with Chapmanslade we can make a few hundred more people informed.”
Frome is the first community in the country to establish a comprehensive ‘network’ of public accessible life-saving defibrillators for use in cardiac trauma situations.
![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
