Voting for the People’s budget is well underway; responses have been coming in thick and fast and with voting only open for the next two weeks, Frome Town Council (FTC) are urging residents to vote to ensure their favourite is counted.
As the People’s budget is about local people voting to make direct decisions about how local public budgets are spent, here’s a breakdown of the projects which are shortlisted for the £10,000 available.
• First there is an intergenerational project which looks to connect the generations through the things that they love. This project aims to match together people of all ages based on their hobbies and interests, while supporting people to spend time together doing the things they love such as gardening, baking, chess, reading etc. This project, linking people through their shared passions, has the potential to deliver huge benefits to the Frome community and help build connections.
• Next there is a youth workers project; helping to support young people in parks, open spaces and other areas where young people naturally gather. The youth workers will provide positive activities while addressing issues such as drugs, anti-social behaviour and building stronger relationships between young and old in communities.
• The Frome Bursary is the next project, helping to support young people’s access to arts, sports and music opportunities. The Frome Bursary will kick start a fund for children and young people to access opportunities outside of school. It will also contribute towards costs such as transport to offer young people the chance to participate in work experience and other activities that they otherwise would not be able to.
• The following project is an accessible community allotment; This project would see the creation of a new community allotment in Frome. The funding will be used to build an accessible allotment space with paths, raised beds and storage which will form the basis of a new community project serviced by a volunteer coordinator and create opportunities for residents to come together, share skills and learn about planting growing and cooking.
• Finally, Frome Voice is a project designed to create community cohesion through face-to-face connections to reach the views of all parts of the town. It will be training community researchers from all walks of life, to gather opinion and develop opportunities in Frome.
Cllr Sheila Gore visited the Town Hall to cast her vote, “Voting couldn’t be simpler; to have your say in the People’s Budget, pop along to the Discover Frome Information point or the Town Hall where voting slips are waiting to be completed, or failing that visit the FTC website”.
