MENDIP District Council is joining Cycling UK in its annual campaign to help as many people as possible get on their bikes.
It’s an opportunity not only to celebrate national Bike Week (6th-14th June), but to the raise awareness of the work the Council is doing to support cycling in the district.
Councillors and officers have been invited to share their stories on social media as to why they love to cycle in Mendip. There will be films and pictures posted online too.
The campaign comes just days after Mendip announced plans to transform travel across its villages, towns and city. The Council is to make it easier and safer for residents to get about by bike and on foot, through a network of paths. This ambitious project delivers on the Council’s priorities for a greener, fairer, more vibrant Mendip, and on its aim to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Mendip District Council ‘cycling champion’, Cllr Matt Martin, said: “Cycling has seen a surge in popularity since the Coronavirus crisis. Part of the challenge now is to create a safe and convenient environment to sustain that increase.
“I urge people to give it a go. Cycling is a great form of exercise that’s good for people, and the planet.”
