‘The King of post-modern nonsense’, comedy favourite Tony Law, is set to bring his much-lauded, sell-out Edinburgh fringe show to Frome, this spring. ‘A Lost Show’ comes to the Merlin Theatre for one night only on April 18th.
Described as “a mind-changing, comedy-art, laugh-affirming experience you’ll never forget” audiences can expect accents, observations, shouting, clowning, shadows, shadow puppets, a space bear puppet, music, some deliberately bad music, falling and white face paint. The producers tell us that “this show finds the vulnerability in us all.”
Tony has appeared on many popular shows including Have I Got News For You, The Alternative Comedy Experience, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. His radio credits include Arts Club with Will Gompertz (5Live), Tony Law: 21st Century Adventurer, Tony Law’s Surreal Guide To Surreal Comedy, Loose Ends and the Infinite Monkey Cage.
As Claudia Pepler, director of the Merlin Theatre, tells us, “We are having an amazing season for comedy: Jack Dee, Alan Carr, Zoe Lyons, Deborah Ward… I don’t know if it’s a reaction to the misery of austerity and Brexit but the theatre is packed with laughter this season.
“We’re already lucky enough to be recognised and on the circuit for amazing live-theatre so this upsurge of fun is just adding to the sense or joy in our little bit of Somerset. We can’t wait to see Tony’s show; the national press have already said that he takes his stand-up to a “dangerously funny new level” so we’re expecting a full house.”
Tony Law: A Lost Show will be performed on 18 April at Merlin Theatre, Frome. Tickets £12.50 available online at merlintheatre.co.uk or box office 01373 465949
