Three new producers have joined Frome Food Assembly, Frome’s weekly online farmers’ market putting shoppers directly in touch with local farmers, growers and food makers.
All will be taking part in the Assembly’s biggest event yet, a Local Food Tasting Extravaganza on Wednesday 12th July which will feature guest producers from other assemblies.
Frome’s new producers include Cavendish Cooks, a local producer of healthy, delicious, home-cooked ready-to-eat meals. With over 40 dishes on offer, including mains, sides and desserts, many of which are vegan, vegetarian or gluten free, there is something to tempt everyone.
Wild Thyme Plants (from Frome) specialise in growing beautifully scented perennials and shrubs and a range of wildflowers from around the British Isles. They join Stuart the Flowerman in broadening the range of non-food items in the Assembly.
Last but not least, is new supplier, Mayfield Organic who will offer some fruit and veg that can’t be grown locally, as well as a number of more “exotic” items responsibly sourced from small European suppliers.
Host Pia McGee explains, “Many Food Assembly customers have told us they still resort to the supermarket for fruit we can’t grow locally – lemons and kiwi fruit for example. We hope that by including these in our selection (alongside our core range of seasonal and local veggie produce) we can persuade people to shop with us instead!”
The Frome Food Assembly is hosting their biggest event yet as part of the Frome Festival on Wednesday 12th July, 5.30-7.30pm in the Steiner School main hall. All of the producers will be joining together to sample local produce and will be joined by guest producers from other assemblies. On this Festival evening, producers will also be selling produce and food on the night, so the advice is – don’t eat beforehand!
