FROME fundraiser, Lisa Wells, has been nominated as being one of the ‘Inspirational Women of the Year’ in the annual competition run by the Daily Mail.
Lisa, who was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer in 2017, has been nominated for an award by interior designer, Pearl Lowe, for her courageous fundraising over the last year.
If chosen Lisa, alongside four other national finalists, will attend a black tie charity awards gala dinner in March, supporting YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
Lisa, alongside supporters, has raised over £90,000 for her family’s future, £10,000 for Dorothy House Hospice Care and has published a children’s book with Michelle Robertson, about dealing with loss, with all profits going to local cancer charity WHY and Mummy’s Star charity.
This month, Lisa shared on Facebook her vision for the future and is hoping for a new direction for the group of avid followers and supporters known as ‘Lisa’s Army’.
During her 22nd round of chemotherapy, Lisa has prospects of seeing the group become an organisation that raises money for charities. She wants to have four charities a year, one each quarter, that they will dedicate their fundraising efforts towards.
The first charity of the year is The Willow Foundation, a national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40, to enable them to have uplifting and unforgettable special days.
To raise money for this charity that has helped her and her family during the last year, Lisa has started The 50 Pence Challenge, hoping that if every single one of her 10,000+ followers donated 50p, she can raise £5,000.
