Hearts played TNC recently for the first time due to a rearranged game.The first stanza started off slowly for both teams, with TNC scoring the first 3 goals.
After the first few minutes, Hearts started to pick up the pace and caught them up, with fantastic shooting from Ness GA and Maddie GS making it difficult for their defence. With great turnovers and interceptions, Hearts had more shooting opportunities, ending the first quarter ahead 11-4.
The second stanza started with the same brilliant interceptions from mid court players Ellie WA, Emma C and WD Freya. However, TNC also played very well, allowing them to catch up with similar play intercepting at every opportunity.The 2nd stanza ended 14-14. Into the third stanza, Hearts made some changes. Kiah came on as WA and Ellie moved into shooting at GA. Hearts quickly pulled away with fantastic shooting from both shooters and the defence of Bev and Jess took many rebounds and turnovers to bring the ball up court. This stanza ended with Hearts in the lead 24-18
.In the final stanza, Hearts felt the pressure to keep the lead. The determination from all players was amazing, meaning the score stayed on Hearts’ side. TNC caught up on a few occasions, but with great play from all of Hearts in all areas of the court, Hearts finished the match winners 33-27.This was a friendly and enjoyable match by all. Diamonds 54
Holt Gold 27
Diamonds travelled to Devizes to take on Holt Gold. After winning their previous encounter, Diamonds were hopeful for another great performance. They came out in the first quarter firing on all cylinders, great shooting from the two shooters Maunder and Cox gave them an early lead of 13-6.
Diamonds were determined to hold on to this lead going into the second stanza. After a quick pep talk from Coach Jane, the players quickly found their rhythm. There was some great defence from Rendell, Ritson and Carter who made numerous interceptions turning this into attack and speed from Guy and Fowler to get the ball into the shooters. Maunder and Cox really got their eye in and the quarter finished 31-15 to Diamonds.
The second half saw Rendell, Ritson and Carter again applying the pressure on to Holt’s attack, creating countless turnovers and only allowing Holt to score 4 goals this stanza. Guy and Fowler fed some superb balls into the shooters who were both on fire! Diamonds continued to advance their lead to 47-19.
The final quarter saw Holt come out with a vengeance and they had some excellent flow of play across the court, but with the outstanding defensive play from all of Diamonds, Holt were unable to make a comeback. Guy and Fowler continued to work the ball down the court and into the shooters with some fantastic back up from Carter. Rendell and Ritson kept the shooters at bay despite pressure from Holt. The match ended with Diamonds winning by a whopping 54-27.
Player of the match -Elise Fowler, players’ player -Georgina Guy. It was very well deserved, a superb performance from Diamonds. Next week Diamonds take on Pewsey who they narrowly beat by just 2 goals on their previous meeting.
